I’ve been thinking about Jerome Blackmon's case lately. It's absolutely chilling how gun violence affected Baltimore back in 2009, and it still echoes today. I can’t help but feel for Jerome's loved ones—no one should have to endure such a senseless loss.
What really sticks out to me is the eerie silence around so many of these cases. The lack of witness cooperation is understandable given the circumstances, but it also makes it incredibly difficult for justice to be served. I read that, like many other incidents that year, Jerome's murder went unsolved. It must be incredibly painful for his family and friends knowing that they may not get the closure they deserve.
I wonder what can be done to better support community members so they feel safe enough to come forward. It's obvious the city has been grappling with these systemic issues for decades. How do we foster an environment of trust and safety that encourages people to speak up? It seems like a crucial step towards breaking this cycle of violence.
