Hi everyone,
I've been thinking a lot about the security measures at schools, especially in light of what happened to Kevin Davis Jr. It's commendable that CPS is deploying additional security personnel and offering grief counseling, but I keep wondering if there are other preventive steps that could be taken. Maybe more community involvement or programs for students to feel safer and more connected to one another, both in and out of school?
What’s happening in South Austin just underscores the urgent need to address the broader issue of gun violence affecting our youth. I can't imagine what Kevin's family and friends are going through, and they shouldn't have to carry this burden alone. Their loss is incredibly significant, and my heart goes out to them.
If anyone has information on similar safety initiatives that have shown promise elsewhere, sharing those might be a good start. We have to come together as a community to protect our kids.
Take care,

I've been following the case of Kevin Davis Jr., and it truly shook me how events like this keep happening in our communities. I wanted to discuss a little about the impact this has had on Michele Clark Magnet High School, especially in terms of safety and student wellbeing.
It's notable that CPS has started to reassess their safety measures, but we have to wonder whether current efforts are enough. Adding more security personnel is a start, but what about the long-term solutions to prevent these tragedies? I've been reading that some students are still afraid to return to school, which is understandable given the circumstances. I think the emotional impact on these young people can’t be ignored. Offering grief counseling is crucial, but we should be thinking about how we can support them in the long haul.
If anyone has information on how other communities have managed to address these kinds of issues successfully, please share. We need to learn from each other to find ways to ensure safety and peace for our children. Sending love and strength to Kevin's family, friends, and the entire community dealing with this unimaginable pain.
