I've been looking into the tragic event in Brunswick in 1915, and something that stood out to me was the role played by those two brave citizens. One of them used a shotgun to intervene, and it got me thinking about the risk and selflessness involved in that moment. These individuals, likely just ordinary folks, stepped up under pressure and very real danger to stop the carnage. It's incredible to imagine the courage it must have taken to confront the assailant like that. Thinking about the impact they had, not only did they prevent more lives from being lost, but they also provided some semblance of justice and closure for the victims' families, including George W. Asbell's. It must have been a small comfort to the families and the tight-knit community to know that there were heroes among them willing to act in such dire circumstances. I'm grateful that even during those dark times, there were people who stood up against violence, making a difference that must have been felt deeply by everyone in Brunswick. Thoughts with Asbell's family and the community that had to endure such horror.
