It’s so difficult to think about what James D. Lewiel's family must be going through. I can't imagine the fear and distress they felt finding out that someone had been tailing their brother, son, or friend from the mall that day. The level of planning and intent behind that act is chilling.
While it’s a relief that Christopher Dyer has been charged, it feels like such a small piece of justice in light of everything his loved ones have lost. I hope the ongoing investigation uncovers all the pieces of this puzzle, so everyone directly involved faces the consequences of their actions.
My heart goes out to Lewiel's family and the entire Freebandz music group, who lost not only a talented artist but a friend and confidant. These events remind us how important it is for communities to work together with law enforcement to prevent violence like this. Attended a few gatherings in Atlanta paying tribute to OG Double Dee, and it's clear how much he meant to people not just as an artist, but as a friend and mentor. His influence on the hip-hop scene was powerful, and he was seen as a guiding figure for a lot of up-and-coming artists. It’s sobering to think about how he spent his last day—twice visiting South DeKalb Mall, a place so many of us pass by regularly, only to meet such a tragic fate shortly after. It’s unsettling to imagine someone possibly shadowing him with sinister intentions. I'm just hoping that anyone with information, no matter how small, can come forward to help piece things together. The thought of someone tailing him that day in broad daylight is chilling, and I can't even begin to comprehend what his family must be going through. This case really highlights an ongoing concern of safety within the music industry that needs more attention. OG Double Dee will be greatly missed.
