I’ve been following Enrique "E.J." Delos-Reyes’ case, and something I found deeply unsettling is the randomness of it all. Enrique wasn't even supposed to be working that night at the 911 Smoke Shop—he was just doing a favor for a colleague. It’s painful to think that such a kind gesture led to such a tragic outcome. I’ve seen so many people talk about what a warm and genuine person he was, always going the extra mile for everyone around him. What’s scary is how random life can be, and how one small decision can have such drastic consequences. My heart goes out to his friends and family who have to cope with such a senseless act of violence. It’s important for us as a community to remember him for the joy he brought to others and come together to support his loved ones through this.
Did anyone else notice the role of Shawn Smith in this case? I'm not suggesting anything nefarious, but it must have been a traumatic experience for him to witness such violence. Thinking about how he courageously provided crucial details to the police, like the description of the getaway car and the driver, is impressive and must have been really tough to do under such circumstances. I'm curious if he received any support or counseling afterward to help him cope with what he witnessed. Being forced into a bathroom at gunpoint and then hearing that gunshot must have been terrifying. My thoughts go out to him along with Enrique's family; it's such a painful scenario to endure. Anyone have insights on what kind of support systems are typically available for witnesses of such crimes?
