I've been following the tragic case of Benson West, and it truly hits hard thinking about the friends who were with him that day. Imagine just hanging out, thinking it's a regular day, and then everything changes in a heartbeat. I can’t even fathom what those kids must be going through, knowing one moment of carelessness changed their lives forever. Benson was only 15, just starting his journey in high school at Banneker, full of potential and dreams. It’s so painful to think such a promising life was cut short over something that was completely avoidable. This incident really highlights how critical firearm education and safety are, especially for our youth. No family should have to endure such a loss, and no child should have to live with knowing their actions, even if accidental, took a friend away. I'm hoping this incident sparks a bigger conversation about responsible gun ownership and safety training across communities. Ultimately, we all have to work together to keep our kids safe. My heart goes out to Benson’s family and friends as they navigate this unimaginable time.
