Every time I think about Hezikah Wilson's case, my heart goes out to his family and the close-knit community he was a part of. As someone on the autism spectrum, routine and familiarity were probably essential for him, so it's particularly disturbing that his life ended so tragically in a place that should have been safe for him. I've read about how people like Hezikah often stick to their routines, making this senseless act even more confusing and painful for everyone involved. I can't imagine the agony his family faces, knowing he was simply letting his dog out—a task many of us do every day without a second thought. It underscores the vulnerability of everyday life, and I hope the ongoing investigation brings some answers and, ultimately, some semblance of peace to Hezikah's loved ones. It feels like these questions about "why" and "who" continue to echo through the streets of Baltimore, reminding us all too often of the work still needed to address the violence in our communities. Holding onto hope that justice will one day be served.
