Has anyone else been following the trial of Marcus Theodore Wiggins in the tragic death of Donald Matthews? I've been thinking a lot about the community's reaction to this case. The fact that it involved military personnel has definitely cast a spotlight on safety concerns for our soldiers, both off and on duty. Given that Fort Benning is such a significant part of the Columbus area, it's distressing to see such violence unfold that involves someone who served our country. I hope this case can bring about some meaningful discussions on how to better support and protect our veterans and active-duty members outside of their service. It's devastating to think that someone who made it safely through a deployment in Afghanistan could lose their life in such a senseless act back home. My thoughts are with Donald's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
