I was reading about the tragedy surrounding the disappearance of Douglas Oland from Bayville, and something about the Mayday call caught my attention. It seems that the Coast Guard received a garbled transmission at 2:58 p.m., but the vessel wasn’t located in time. Does anyone know if there was ever a follow-up on the capabilities or condition of the equipment back then to receive and respond to distress signals? I can't help but wonder if any technical limitations or issues during that era could have impacted the rescue efforts. Given the rapid deterioration of weather conditions and the equipment failure on the boat, any delay in communication could have been crucial. It's frustrating to think about how these factors might have played a role in the tragic outcome. Would love to hear thoughts or insights on this.
