I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of anger in this tragedy with Vernard Porter. It's so difficult to grasp how an argument over something like a repossessed car could escalate to such a horrific outcome. Vernard, by all accounts, was a well-loved young man, and to think that a moment of heated emotion ended his life is incredibly saddening. I'm wondering if this could be a broader commentary on how conflicts are managed, or rather, mismanaged. Could there have been warning signs, perhaps even small ones, leading up to this? Could intervention by friends or family have potentially prevented things from getting to this point? My heart really goes out to Vernard's family and friends as they navigate this sorrow. It’s such a painful reminder of how crucial it is for communities to have resources to deal with disputes in ways that don't lead to violence.
