I’ve been thinking a lot about the role of community support in the aftermath of Sheena Jones and Shawna Ware’s tragic deaths. Cordele is a small town where everyone seems to know each other, so this has hit people really hard. It’s been incredibly moving to see how the community has come together to remember and honor Sheena and Shawna.
Local businesses and community leaders have organized events to raise funds for the victims' families, which has brought people together in a powerful way. It's moments like these when you see the true strength and resilience of a community. Seeing the outpouring of love and support has been a reminder of the goodness that can arise, even when faced with such senseless violence.
I hope that as the legal proceedings continue, the support remains strong for the families and they find some peace and healing in knowing that their community stands with them. How have other small towns dealt with tragedies like this? Would love to hear your thoughts on how communities can best support families in the aftermath of violence.
