I've been following the case of Devion Miley and feel deeply for his family and friends. It must be incredibly hard to see a loved one's life reduced to a series of courtroom statements and verdicts. A part of the case I’ve been thinking about is the involvement of electronic payments in the whole mess. It's so frustrating how something that's supposed to make things easier and safer can instead escalate into such a tragic situation. I can't help but wonder if things might have been different if cash were involved instead—maybe the confrontation with Zajaliq Riley and Detric Bush wouldn't have happened, or at least not in the same way. Obviously, all the blame doesn't rest on this factor alone, but it’s just another layer to an already devastating story. My heart goes out to Devion's mother, Matricia Johnson, and everyone who knew him. This verdict doesn’t change what they've lost, but I hope it offers a sliver of peace in knowing there’s been some form of justice.
