I've been thinking a lot about the horrific incident at the Parke Towne North Apartments and how Freddy Mendoza's death has really shaken the Brookhaven community. It's so alarming that something like this happened in broad daylight! I can't even imagine how Freddy’s family is coping with this unimaginable loss. My heart truly goes out to them. But here's what’s bothering me: How do we, as a community, address the increasing concerns about safety? With such a tragic event highlighting these issues, it's clear there is a much bigger problem to tackle. What steps can we take to ensure the safety of our residential areas, especially when it comes to preventing gun violence? Any suggestions or strategies that have worked in other neighborhoods? I sincerely hope this tragic incident does lead to meaningful conversations and actions. Freddy deserved so much better. Let's keep discussing and pushing for solutions so that we don’t have to wake up to another tragic headline.
