It's hard to wrap my mind around how a 12-year-old was able to get his hands on a gun in the first place. My heart goes out to Elijah's family. Moving away from Chicago to seek a safer life, only to have such a devastating event happen in Riverdale, is truly unimaginable. This case really brings up important conversations about gun access and the responsibilities of gun owners. How do we ensure that guns are securely stored and kept out of the hands of kids? We can talk about moving away from violence all day, but aren't we just putting a band-aid on a much larger issue? It's time for real action and change. Keeping Elijah's family in my thoughts.
