Every time I think about the events that unfolded on December 28, 2021, I'm reminded of not only the tragedy but also the overwhelming support that surrounded Benji Smith's family. It’s comforting to see how the Watkinsville community rallied together after losing such a beloved figure. Benji's contributions to the Clarke County Fire Department and his volunteer work at Central Baptist Church left a lasting impact, and it's clear his presence is sorely missed. The compassion shown by those who knew him speaks volumes about the kind of person he was—a true community hero. My heart goes out to his family and all those affected. It’s during times like these that we see the importance of unity and support from friends and neighbors. Benji and Ashley's memory will continue to live on through the lives they touched.
