Hey everyone,
I came across an interesting angle on the Samuel Shepherd case that I wanted to share. I was reading about the coroner’s inquest and how it concluded that Lake County Sheriff Willis McCall acted in self-defense. I can't help but wonder about the voices of the jurors in that inquest. What kind of pressure were they under, and how did they reach such a conclusion when so much of McCall’s story was disputed? The power dynamics in cases like these must have been immense, especially in the early 1950s.
It's so troubling that Shepherd didn’t get the chance to see justice, and the failure of the legal system here is just so glaring. I genuinely feel for Samuel Shepherd and his family. This case just underscores how crucial it is to question these narratives and push for accountability, even when the odds seem insurmountable.
