I recently came across the case of Thomas Messick Sr., and it's really puzzling. One aspect that's bugging me is why none of the searchers picked up any scent or trace of him. They had professional search dogs out there, which usually have a pretty good track record in finding people, or at least their belongings, yet not a single clue turned up. It makes me wonder if maybe there was something in the environment that confused the dogs or if Messick possibly left the area entirely under some bizarre circumstance. The area isn't generally populated, but what if he somehow managed to get into a vehicle, maybe unknowingly by someone who thought they were helping? Just brainstorming here, but it would explain why the dogs came up with nothing. Thoughts?
