I’ve been following the Gilbert case and I can’t stop thinking about the emotional impact it must have had on their community. Living in a condo in Fort Lauderdale, they probably knew their neighbors for years. I wonder how Roswell and Emily’s friends and neighbors processed the tragic event. It must have been such a shock to those who saw the couple regularly and cared for them. I imagine people around them felt a mix of surprise, sorrow, and maybe even confusion about what had happened. Does anyone know if the neighbors were aware of Emily's condition and her desires? Were they vocal in the courtroom or media about their thoughts on Roswell's actions? It’s hard to think about how tightly-knit communities handle situations like this, knowing there are no easy answers or ways to make sense of such a tragedy. My heart goes out to anyone who knew and loved Emily, trying to cope with their loss and the circumstances surrounding it.
