Hey everyone, I recently revisited the story of Lt. Grover Clifton Cooper and Sgt. James Wouters, and something truly touching stuck with me. Beyond their heroism and the tragic events of that fateful day, the turnout at their funeral is something I find deeply moving—it paints a picture of just how much they meant to their community and fellow officers. With nearly all 87 officers of their department in attendance and a massive crowd of 1,500 mourners, it’s clear these men left a lasting impact. It’s moments like these, amidst all the grief, where you really see the sense of kinship and solidarity within the community. Their decision to lay them to rest side by side was a beautiful tribute to their close friendship and testament to their shared sacrifice. I can only imagine the strength it took for their families to endure such a public farewell. My thoughts are with them, even all these years later. It’s a case that really emphasizes the profound respect and gratitude we owe to those who stand on the front lines to keep us safe. Curious if anyone has been to the memorial station or knows more about the annual commemorations? Would love to hear your insights or stories. Stay safe out there. – JustAnotherSleuth
