Jeffrey Adam Yaslowitz was a 39-year-old K-9 officer with the St. Petersburg Police Department who was killed on January 24, 2011, while attempting to serve two warrants for aggravated battery at a home on 28th Avenue South in St. Petersburg, Florida. He went to the call at the start of his shift, filling in for another officer, and responded with members of a regional task force. A family member told officers the suspect was hiding in the attic and possibly armed.

Officer Yaslowitz and United States Marshal Scott Ley made entry into the attic; the suspect had earlier indicated he would surrender but then opened fire. Officer Yaslowitz was shot twice in the head; Marshal Ley was shot in the groin and fell from the attic. A rescue team that included Sergeant Tom Baitinger was also fired upon; both Yaslowitz and Baitinger were transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead. The suspect, identified as Hydra Lacy Jr., was later found dead after the home was partially dismantled using heavy machinery.

No further arrests related to the deaths were reported. The operation and its procedures were reviewed by the St. Petersburg Police Department and other agencies in the aftermath. Does anyone have information about the operation that morning or knew Officer Yaslowitz and can add context about him?
