Byrd and Smathers could have been any of us, just sitting in a car, unwinding after a night out. It’s terrifying to consider that a night meant for relaxation ended in such horror due to someone who perhaps shouldn't have had a firearm at all. Discussions on reforming these processes are so important to ensure no one else has to endure such pain because of preventable flaws in the system.
