I just keep thinking about how Carlos was on his way home with his son when this unimaginable tragedy struck. It hits me that this was a regular day for them, returning from a boxing practice, probably chatting about the session and planning the rest of their evening. That moment of normalcy was shattered in an instant, and his son witnessed something no child should ever have to endure. My heart truly goes out to his family, especially his son, who not only lost his father in such a violent manner but had to bear witness to it. I hope they’re receiving all the support they need to navigate through this. It also reminds me of how crucial it is for communities to be vigilant and supportive of mental health struggles. I can’t help but wonder if there was a missed opportunity to help Vargas before it ever came to this.
I can’t stop thinking about how Carlos Javier Gavilanes’ son witnessed his father’s last moments. There’s something deeply unsettling in that thought, and it weighs heavily on anyone with a heart. It’s unimaginable how a young child processes something so traumatic. No parent should be taken away in such a violent manner, and no child should have to witness it.
I feel like this is a strong reminder of how critical mental health support is in our communities. Vargas clearly needed help and intervention long before that tragic night. The local authorities and community groups really need to step up and provide resources not just to those showing signs of distress, but also to family members who are affected.
Also, if anyone who knew Gavilanes or his family is reading this, please know that my thoughts are with you. I hope that somehow the community can rally around to support his son and family during this incredibly difficult time.
