I’ve been following the case of Deputy Christopher “Tater” Smith, and something that’s really been on my mind is the bravery of the off-duty officer who stepped in. The fact that they risked their life to engage the attacker and prevent further carnage is nothing short of heroic. It’s terrifying to think how much worse the situation could have been if not for their quick response. It’s so crucial for the community to recognize the efforts of all first responders, both on and off duty. They truly never stop serving. My heart goes out to Deputy Smith’s family and all those who were affected by this tragedy. It’s incredibly unfair that another officer was put in harm’s way trying to protect others. What do y’all think could be done to further support officers and their families, especially after such traumatic events?
