I've been thinking a lot about the timing of events on the night Angel was killed. It just really struck me how quickly everything must have happened. It was around 1:30 a.m., and I assume a lot of people at the Whispering Oaks Apartments were asleep or winding down for the night. For Raquel Gomez to lose her son in such a sudden and violent way, it must have been such a shock. I’ve been following Angel Alonzo’s case from the start, and the more I learn, the more it strikes me how important community observance is in such situations. Living in the same complex or nearby, you never really imagine being a witness to something as extreme as a murder investigation. I can’t help but feel for the person who discovered Angel after hearing the shots. It must have been absolutely terrifying and traumatic for them. This brings to light how essential it is to stay aware of our surroundings and report anything unusual to help in preventing tragic events like this from occurring in the first place.
