I've been following the discussions here about Officer Jared Forsyth's tragic death, and one thing that I've been thinking a lot about is the impact this must have had on the officer who was involved in the accident. I can't even imagine the weight of that day — to have a routine training exercise turn into something so devastating. It's clear that it was an accident, but I hope the officer is receiving the support and counseling needed to cope with such a traumatic incident. Mistakes can have such profound consequences, and this particular one changed many lives forever. We often focus on the victims, as we should, but I think it's also important to acknowledge the emotional toll that such accidents have on everyone involved, including fellow officers. I hope the Ocala Police Department continues to support its whole team through this difficult time.
