I've been thinking a lot about the tragic case of Marie and Gerard Stempinski, and something that's been on my mind is how such a respected figure like Gerard, with his background in law enforcement, could reach such a devastating breaking point. Having served as a police officer, he must have been well aware of the signs of mental distress and the resources available. It makes me wonder if pride or stigma had something to do with why he didn't seek help. The community clearly admired both Marie and Gerard for their contributions, and it’s such a loss to think about them gone in an instant. My heart goes out to their friends and family who must be grappling with so many unanswered questions. It's a reminder of the importance of mental health support, especially for those who have spent their lives helping others. What do you all think? Could there be more done to support retired law enforcement officers struggling with mental health issues?
