I've been following the Pulse Nightclub case with a heavy heart, and one detail about Oscar Ambiorix Aracena-Montero has been on my mind. He was so close to fulfilling his dream of reuniting his mother in Florida. I can't imagine the depth of her loss, being so far away when this unimaginable tragedy took place. Bringing family together was clearly important to Oscar, and it’s crushing to know that dream was stolen from him and his mother. It's stories like these that remind us of the individual lives and futures that were cut short that night. Oscar was working so hard, managing a McDonald's while attending university. His efforts to build a life in the U.S., even buying a home with his partner, speak volumes about his dedication and the promising life he was carving out. It’s not just a community that mourns, but individual families and loved ones who have to navigate their lives after such loss. Sending my thoughts to all those who knew and loved Oscar and the others whose lives were taken in this senseless tragedy. Let's keep discussing how we can push for changes that address the root causes of such violence.
