David Norgard, 24, of Golden Gate Estates in Naples, Florida, was shot and killed on March 1, 2019, after a road‑rage confrontation near 16th Avenue Southwest and 23rd Street Southwest at about 9 p.m. Norgard, driving a small green car, followed a gray Ford pickup. According to the shooter’s statement, he tapped his brakes to create distance; witnesses said Norgard then exited his vehicle, approached the truck and reached into it as if trying to grab someone. The shooter fired two shots to the chest; Norgard died at Physicians Regional‑Pine Ridge about 30 minutes after arrival.

The shooter was later identified as Israel Elledias. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office concluded the shooting was a justifiable homicide under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, and no criminal charges were filed. Norgard’s family filed a wrongful death suit alleging Elledias provoked the confrontation; Circuit Judge Blake Adams dismissed the suit on the ground that Elledias was immune from civil action under the same law.
