I just can’t stop thinking about the bravery Yasnai showed. She took those daunting steps to protect herself and her family by filing that petition against Martinez De La Cotera, despite how risky it can feel to stand up to someone you’re afraid of. The system is supposed to offer support in these moments but sometimes it doesn’t move quickly enough. It's haunting to think about how close she was to her court date. The fact that this tragedy happened is just beyond words. I hope we can all advocate for swifter action and more resources for protection orders – people’s lives truly depend on that support. My heart goes out to their loved ones. No one should have to endure such loss, especially when they’ve already begun seeking help.

I just can't stop thinking about the brave steps Yasnai took to try to protect herself and her brothers. It's incredibly sad that her plea for help wasn't answered in time. It's a harsh reminder of how important it is that we all push harder for measures that ensure victims of domestic violence are heard and protected immediately. The system failed this family in the worst possible way. My heart truly goes out to their loved ones, who have to carry this pain forever. The fact that Martinez De La Cotera had the audacity to call 911 and try to paint himself as a victim just adds salt to the wound. Keep pressing for change, guys – we need better support and quicker actions in cases like these.
