Does anyone have more information on Bert Tibbet's role during this tragic incident? I read that he was involved in the shootout that claimed his brother William’s life, and it must have been an incredibly traumatic experience for him. The thought of having to face such a dangerous situation, especially with family involved, is just unimaginable. Does anyone know how Bert coped with this afterward or if he continued in law enforcement? My heart goes out to the Tibbet family; losing a loved one in such a violent manner must have been devastating.

I’ve been reading up on the tragic shootout at the Joss House in 1903, and something really stood out to me: the involvement of Bert Tibbet, Deputy Tibbet’s brother. I can't even begin to fathom the emotional turmoil he must have gone through that day. Being part of a team facing off dangerous criminals is challenging enough, but doing it alongside your brother? And then to have the situation end in such a catastrophic way, losing William and having to play a role in the resolution by shooting McKinney... it’s unimaginable. I hope people understand the immense pressure these officers were under, especially in those chaotic moments. Their bravery is definitely something to be remembered. I’m sure the Tibbet family and those who knew the deputies were deeply affected by these events. Does anyone have more info on how this incident impacted Bert in the years that followed? It’s not just about the duty they served but the personal struggles they likely dealt with afterward.

I’ve been reading through some old cases and can't stop thinking about the tragic events surrounding Deputy Marshal William E. Tibbet’s death back in 1903. It's incredibly sad to think about the risks that law enforcement officers took even back then, trying to bring dangerous people like Jim McKinney to justice. The bravery shown by Deputy Tibbet, working alongside his brother Bert and Marshal Packard, is awe-inspiring yet so devastating when you consider the price they paid. The fact that the shootout took place at the infamous Joss House really signifies the kind of chaotic, perilous situations officers were caught in all the time. I can only imagine the community impact following this incident, knowing that two well-respected lawmen had lost their lives. It makes me reflect on how tenuous and dangerous their work was, dealing with outlaws like McKinney who seemed to have nothing to lose. Does anyone know if there are any memorials or dedications in Bakersfield to honor Deputy Tibbet and Marshal Packard? It seems fitting that there should be something to remember their sacrifice and perhaps bring some peace to their surviving family members, especially considering the traumatic nature of their deaths.
