I’ve been thinking a lot about the off-duty officer who rushed to help Officer Brown after hearing the gunshots. It must have been terrifying and surreal to realize a colleague was in such dire need so close to home. I can’t imagine the mix of adrenaline and fear he felt. It’s a somber reminder of the camaraderie and bravery required in this line of work, even when you're not on the clock. My heart goes out to both Officer Brown’s family and the brave officer who tried to assist — being thrust into such a traumatic moment must have left a lasting mark. It’s moments like these that put a spotlight on the continuous sacrifice and bravery of law enforcement. How can communities better support and prepare officers for these unexpected, critical situations?
