I'm just completely bewildered by how four suspects could be caught and yet none of them faced justice for this senseless act. Officer Cook was clearly dedicated to his duty, even when he was technically off the clock. It really underscores the dangers law enforcement officers face, staying vigilant even after their shifts end. I'm left wondering about the investigation methods back in 1906—could modern forensic techniques have made a difference here? It's truly upsetting to think his family had to live with both their loss and the lack of closure. Thoughts are with them; they deserved so much more than unanswered questions. Anyone know more about how cases like this were handled back then?

I've been looking into Officer James S. Cook's case, and something that truly stands out to me is the role of witnesses. It seems crazy to think that in such a bustling area of San Francisco, there wouldn't have been a single witness who could positively identify the shooter. Was it fear of retaliation that kept people silent, or maybe something else? I imagine the chaos of 1906 San Francisco might have made it easier for someone to vanish into the crowd, but still, it's odd not to have any credible witnesses come forward. It must be incredibly frustrating for Officer Cook's family to know there were witnesses to his murder, yet no justice was ever served. Has anyone else come across any info or theories about why no one stepped up to help close this case?
