It's so tragic to think about how Andrew W. Lindquist was laid to rest in an unmarked grave despite his heroic actions. It makes me wonder about the community's role in honoring those who serve and sacrifice so much. Sheriff Barnet and the Albany city council clearly valued Lindquist’s bravery—offering that $200 reward at the time was no small gesture, considering the times. But what about Lindquist’s final resting place? It took a personal gesture from Mayor Frank J. Roberts to ensure Lindquist had a burial plot. That kindness speaks volumes about the impact Andrew's story had on those who knew him. It's a stark reminder of how we need to carry forward the memory of such individuals—and I’m hopeful that someone has taken steps to mark his grave appropriately since. It’s just a shame we don’t hear more about these unsung heroes from the past. Does anyone know if there's been any effort to memorialize him since?
