I recently read about the mysterious murder of Vincenzo "Little Jimmy" Basile in 1931, and it got me thinking about the role of informants in these organized crime cases. It's heart-wrenching to realize that people who might have had crucial information about his death were probably too scared to speak up. Can you imagine the fear they must have lived with, knowing they could be next? It's a shame that even with so many arrests and interrogations, no one was brave enough (or felt safe enough) to come forward. It really makes you appreciate the courage of those informants who do risk it all to try and bring justice to cases like this. It's such a tragic reminder of how the grip of organized crime can choke a community, leaving families without answers and justice still out of reach. I hope that as time goes on, unresolved cases like Basile's might get a second look with fresh eyes and new technologies. Anybody have insights or opinions on what might encourage more community cooperation in similar cases?
