Hey everyone, I've been reading through some articles from the time and something struck me about Paul Herzberg's role as a college photographer at the time of the Fullerton Massacre. It's just unbelievably sad to think about how he was probably at the university that day doing what he loved, capturing campus life and memories for his fellow students. Photographers often have such a unique perspective, seeing life through their lens and preserving moments that might otherwise be forgotten. It makes me wonder if he ever crossed paths with the shooter in a benign way before that tragic day or if he had taken any photos that could have included Allaway. It’s one of those gut-wrenching "what if" scenarios that haunt those of us who reflect on these tragedies. Paul and the other victims deserved so much more, and it's chilling to think about how a place of learning and growth turned into a site of horror. My thoughts are with his family and friends who have had to carry the weight of this loss for decades now. It's important that we continue to remember all the victims and advocate for the changes needed to prevent such horrors.
