I've been going down the rabbit hole with the Cynthia Moreland and Richard Stowers case, and it's just awful to imagine what their families have gone through. One thing that struck me: it's a wonder how Carpenter managed to evade the authorities for so long, especially with his criminal history. It's infuriating to think that someone with a track record like his could slip through the cracks. It makes you wonder how many more lives could have been saved if there had been a better system in place to track repeat offenders back then. The fact that Carpenter wasn't even on the sex-offender registry boggles the mind. As tragic as it is, I hope that Cynthia and Richard's memory can continue to bring attention to the importance of tighter controls and monitoring of such individuals. My heart goes out to their loved ones who had to endure this nightmare. ?
