Has anyone looked into whether John Ford might have had any connections to places outside of New York City prior to his disappearance? Sometimes people who go missing in urban areas have ties to other states or regions, even if their families aren't aware of them. I wonder if there were any travel records or out-of-town contacts that might provide some clues. It seems like a long shot since the case is so old, but exploring every possibility might help. If he had any favorite places he used to talk about or visit, maybe there's a lead there? Just throwing it out there because every tiny detail could matter after all these years.
