I’ve always found it incredibly troubling how many years it took for Bernita Rochelle Sparks and the other victims of the Grim Sleeper to get justice. It just goes to show how advancements in DNA testing have become game-changers in solving cold cases. It’s quite disheartening that it took so long, but I’m glad that eventually, the technology helped bring closure to Bernita's family. I can’t even begin to imagine the relief they must have felt when Lonnie Franklin Jr. was finally arrested and convicted. Yet, it raises questions about what else we can do to better serve communities with similar vulnerabilities so that history doesn't repeat itself. My heart goes out to the families who had to wait so many years for answers.
