Hey everyone,
I’ve been diving deep into the Henry’s Pub incident and something that keeps haunting me is the sheer bravery of the hostages, especially those who tried to keep everyone calm. I can’t even imagine the fear and stress they were under for those harrowing seven hours. It’s easy to forget that while John Sheehy tragically lost his life, there were others in that pub who showed incredible strength and resilience amidst chaos. My heart really goes out to them, just thinking about how traumatizing the events must have been for all involved. How does someone even begin to recover from something like that? I hope they’ve found some peace over the years. If anyone knows of any follow-up stories about how these individuals are doing now, I’d be interested to hear.
Take care,

I’ve been thinking a lot about the life John Sheehy had ahead of him and how quickly it was taken away. It's devastating to think that he went to Henry's Pub, probably like any other day, not knowing it would be his last. I can't imagine the fear and confusion he must have felt during those harrowing seven hours. This incident is a stark reminder of the importance of evaluating how we handle mental health issues in our communities. While we can’t change what happened, I hope that by examining these failures, we can prevent future tragedies. My heart goes out to John's family and friends who have had to carry this loss. No one should have to experience such senseless violence, and it’s crucial that we continue to talk about mental health and firearm access to honor his memory and protect others.
I keep thinking about the role of mental health in this horrific situation. It's truly distressing to consider how someone like Dashti, clearly struggling with severe schizophrenia, was able to get his hands on that many firearms and ammunition. The system absolutely failed him, but more importantly, it failed John Sheehy and all the other innocent people in that pub.
It's deeply unsettling to think that there might have been opportunities to help Dashti before it ever reached this point. We often hear about red flags and warning signs in such cases—did anyone try to intervene? Were there missed opportunities for treatment or support? It seems like there were so many possible ways this tragedy could have been avoided if there had been a better safety net.
My heart goes out to John's friends and family—it must be devastating to know their loss might have been preventable. Discussions like these are so important because they remind us of the need for better mental health resources and interventions. I hope that by talking about it and pushing for change, we can prevent another senseless tragedy from happening.
