It's been 30 years since Charles T. Barbagallo was senselessly killed during that horrifying spree, and I can't stop thinking about his family and friends who had to endure such a terrible loss. I recently read that Charles was one of the few people who tried to extend kindness to Hilbun despite his challenges. It's just so tragic that being a compassionate person cost him his life in such an unthinkable way. I wonder if there were any red flags that others might have noticed about Hilbun before that day. Given his mental health history, it's clear that something more could have been done. It's alarming how workplace safety and mental health support were so lacking back then, and I hope that this case instigated some changes to prevent another tragedy like this. For those who knew Charles, it must be incredibly hard to move on from this. If there are any community initiatives or ways we can honor his memory, I would love to know more. The victims shouldn't be forgotten, and neither should the lessons learned from what happened.
