As a recent SDSU alum, I often find myself reflecting on the lasting impact that the tragic events of August 15, 1996, have had on the campus community and beyond. It’s eerie to think about how the engineering building, a place of learning and growth, became the scene of such unimaginable loss.
D. Preston Lowrey III, along with his colleagues, Chen Liang and Constantinos Lyrintzis, dedicated their lives to education and inspiring future engineers. Their passion and commitment should be what we remember, not the senseless act that took them from us.
I recently visited the memorial on campus and was moved by the quiet solemnity of the space. It's a tranquil spot where students often gather, maybe without even knowing its significance. For those of us who do know, it serves as a poignant reminder of the educators who gave so much to the SDSU community.
Stories like this emphasize how fragile life can be and the importance of addressing mental health issues promptly. My thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims, and I hope the peace of the memorial extends to them as well.
Hey everyone, I wanted to discuss something that’s been really bothering me about the San Diego State shooting. As much as we talk about the tragedy itself, I feel like we don't always acknowledge the ripple effects it had on students and faculty at SDSU in the years that followed.
Just imagine being a student back then, walking into that engineering building or even around campus. The fear and anxiety must have been unimaginable. Did the university provide enough mental health support for those who were directly and indirectly affected by this incident? I've read that the administration struggled with how to move forward constructively after the event.
It’s also worth considering how this impacted decisions regarding safety protocols on university campuses. Are there any current students or alumni here who can shed some light on how SDSU handled everything in the long run? My thoughts continue to be with the families of the victims. It's important to keep discussing these issues to hopefully prevent such tragedies in the future.
