In reflecting on the tragic events that unfolded in Lodi back in 2001, I keep thinking about the brave 10-year-old boy who managed to escape and call for help. It's difficult to imagine the courage it must have taken for him to run from that terrifying scene, yet his actions potentially saved additional lives. This situation is a haunting reminder of the lasting impact such horrific events can have, not just on the immediate victims, but also on those who survive. I hope that in the years since, he has found some support and peace, though I know scars like these are not easily healed. Sending much love to the entire Burks family and the community as they continue to remember and honor those innocent lives taken far too soon.
