Hey everyone,
I've been thinking a lot about the role of community protection in cases like Mario Cortez's tragic death back in 2004. It must have been really tough for people living in East Hollywood at that time, feeling trapped between wanting to help and fearing the potential fallout from speaking out. It's frustrating to see how the lack of witnesses or fears of retaliation can keep a case from moving forward, even when the community desperately wants justice for someone like Mario.
I can't help but wonder if there are ways to offer more protection or assurance to residents so they can feel safer coming forward. Is anyone familiar with programs or initiatives that have worked elsewhere to build trust and encourage witness cooperation in high-risk areas? Mario deserved justice, and it pains me to see how systemic issues can leave cases like his unresolved for so long. Thoughts and insights would be greatly appreciated.
Stay safe, everyone.
