I’ve been following Myriam Abraham's case for some time, and I’m struck by the role technology played—or rather didn’t play—back in 2004. In today’s world, it seems like we're always surrounded by smartphones and smart devices, which often come into play in investigations. I've been wondering if things might have panned out differently if the tech we have today was available then. For instance, could security cameras in the building or street have provided more pivotal evidence? Or if there had been digital records from Myriam’s phone or social media accounts, would those have added more context to the events leading up to that tragic day?
I can’t help but think about how far things have come in nearly two decades. Myriam deserved justice, and I am heartened that the prosecution was able to build a case with the resources they had at the time. Yet, it’s also a reminder of how critical it is for us to continue to advocate for advancements in technology to be used in solving crimes and protecting those vulnerable to violence. Remembering Myriam today and sending love and strength to all who knew her.
