It's hard to put into words the courage displayed by the young Explorer who was with Officer May that day. I can't imagine being 14 and witnessing such a traumatic event. Kudos to them for having the presence of mind to make that radio call and offer such a detailed description; it really helped law enforcement apprehend Alvarez swiftly. It makes me think about the resilience and maturity required when young individuals choose to participate in ride-along programs. It's a reminder of how real and dangerous the work of police officers can be, even during what might seem like routine patrol duties. Sending thoughts of solidarity to the Explorer, and profound respect for Officer May's family and fellow officers. It's in these moments of crisis that true character shines through. ?

It’s hard to imagine the anxiety and fear the young Explorer must have felt during that tragic event. At just 14, witnessing such a traumatic scene and then having to summon the courage to make that critical radio call is something no one should have to experience, especially at such a young age. It's a testament to his bravery and composure under pressure. My heart goes out to him as he processes what happened, as well as to Officer May’s family and colleagues. His story is a stark reminder of the unpredictable and dangerous situations officers face daily. Officer May was clearly dedicated to his duty and his community, and his loss is felt deeply by so many. Let's all keep his family and the young Explorer in our thoughts.
