I’ve been reading through the threads discussing the Goleta postal tragedy, and my heart goes out to Dexter Shannon’s family. I can’t stop thinking about how he was just doing his job, helping keep things running smoothly at the facility, with no idea of the danger coming his way. Having headphones on seems so innocent, and yet it was enough to keep him from hearing what was happening. It's such a chilling reminder of how fragile life can be. His story is particularly hard to grasp when you think about his service as a Vietnam vet—a man who had already faced unimaginable challenges. It's painful to know that his life would end not on a battlefield, but in his everyday workplace. I can only hope that we learn from these moments to create systems that protect people better. Wishing peace and healing to all those affected by this terrible event. ?
