I've been thinking about the tragic loss of Benjamin Velasco and Julio Ramirez, and my heart truly goes out to their families. I can't begin to fathom the pain they've endured since that night. Something that I've found deeply unsettling is the role of the getaway driver in these kinds of crimes. It seems like they're often seen as less culpable, but I'm not sure that's fair. Daniel Cowie's 40-year-to-life sentence made me wonder: how do we weigh the responsibility of someone who didn't pull the trigger but enabled such a terrible act to happen? It's a tough question. I just hope that every angle of these heartbreaking crimes gets considered so that justice truly serves those who've been affected.
