This case has always stuck with me. Connie was just a kid caught up in circumstances way beyond her control. I’ve been reading about her story, and what keeps standing out to me is the sense of community that rallied around her family. I know the gangs in that area have been a problem for a long time, but this tragedy really seemed to bring some folks together who were desperate for change. After Connie's death, I remember hearing about neighbors coming out to support her family, sharing meals, and organizing vigils. It's comforting to know that in the midst of such darkness, people came together in love and support. The decision her family made to donate her organs was incredibly courageous. It’s a testament to their strength and ability to see beyond their own pain to help others. I hope the police continue to push for justice for Connie, and that something can come from this awful situation to prevent future tragedies. Thinking of her and her loved ones even after all these years.
