I’ve been following Jonathan Cordova’s case, and while the arrest of Ruhani Bustamante brought some closure, it’s hard not to think about the bigger picture here—like how pervasive the gang influence seems to be in Long Beach. It just breaks my heart that young people like Jonathan are caught in such dangerous situations. The fact that multiple gang-related shootings were linked together shows just how complex and deep-rooted these issues are. I can’t imagine how Jonathan’s family must feel, knowing their son was lost to something so senseless and widespread. It’s a reminder of the harsh realities that some communities face daily and the need for more comprehensive solutions to address these cycles of violence. Thoughts with his family during what must still be such a difficult time for them.

I was thinking about how the community might be affected after incidents like this, and it just hits too close to home. Jonathan Cordova was only 18, with his whole life ahead of him. I can’t imagine what his family is going through, losing him so suddenly and violently. It’s such a harsh reminder of the senselessness of gang-related violence. What really stands out to me is the ripple effect on the community. When a young person is taken away like this, it affects everyone—friends, neighbors, even people who might not have known him personally. His loss is felt so deeply, and it brings up hard questions about what more we can do to prevent these tragedies. Jonathan should have been safe in his own community, and I truly hope that with Ruhani Bustamante's arrest, we're moving towards that safety for others. Let’s keep talking about how to heal and support neighborhoods facing these challenges.
