Yong Hoon Yoo, also known as Kevin Yoo, was 28 when he was fatally shot on June 7, 2010, in Koreatown, Los Angeles. According to coroner’s records he was shot in the 600 block of South Berendo Street shortly before 5:30 p.m., found by LAPD Olympic Division officers with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at 6:26 p.m.

Police say Yoo attacked and stabbed a woman in an apartment building parking garage for reasons that remain unclear. The woman’s boyfriend, who was inside a nearby car, intervened and shot Yoo. That shooter was questioned and released; investigators reported neither the shooter nor the victim knew Yoo prior to the attack. Yoo was identified as a known gang member with an extensive criminal record and was out on bail with a pending court case at the time.
